Fine in a Near Fine jacket, clipped, toned matching the design of the boards. Quarter yellow cloth with patterned paper on the boards. Square and firmly bound, clean internally. A collection of the light-hearted interludes from Noh theater, "bawdy skits that were rousingly enjoyed by the plebian populaces of the cities in feudal Japan." Sakanishi was the first woman in Japan to teach at a boys's prep school, and after receiving her doctorate from the University of Michigan she was hired by the U.S. Library of Congress to oversee the Asian reading room.
