New York: A. Simpson and Co., 1867. First Edition. Hardcover. Introduction by Allen, Charles Pickard Ware, and Lucy McKim Garrison. Inscribed by a Garrison family member on the half-title page. Good. Lighty Brown cloth, splitting along the front joint and with a tear across the spine, clean otherwise. Square and firmly bound with brown endpapers, clean internally. The first collection of American "slave" music arranged by four regions: South Eastern Slave States, Northern Seaboard Slave States, Inland Slave States, and Gulf States. This copy bears an inscription possibly belonging to Wendell Phillips Garrison, who was the husband of Lucy McKim Garrison--one of the authors of this work--and the son of William Lloyd Garrison.
